Rehab (PT) Protocols

Surgery is teamwork between the surgeon, patient, and physical therapist. Detailed phase-by-phase protocols for every procedure Dr. Gomoll performs.

The post-operative rehabilitation contributes as much as the surgical procedure itself to overall success. Below are downloadable rehab protocols organized by joint and procedure. Share the appropriate protocol with your physical therapist before starting PT.

Why rehab protocols matter

Surgery is teamwork between the surgeon, the patient, and the rehabilitation specialist. Dr. Gomoll's protocols are written specifically for the procedures he performs, so your therapist knows exactly which motions, weights, and timelines to follow at each phase.

Most outpatient PT begins within 1–2 weeks after surgery — see our after-surgery instructions for the full recovery timeline, and bracing & ice machine for cold-therapy and brace use.

Knee rehab protocols

For knee procedures — including ACL reconstruction, meniscal repair and transplant, cartilage repair (MACI, OATS, osteochondral allograft), high tibial osteotomy (HTO), and partial knee replacement (MAKO, MISHA):

Shoulder rehab protocols

For shoulder procedures — including rotator cuff repair, labral repair, instability surgery, and shoulder arthroscopy:
